You might want to check out Northside Parents Network (www.npnparents.org). It's a $40 membership fee, but I've enjoyed being part of the group for the events, message boards, new mom clubs, neighborhood clubs, etc.

If you're a member, you can search the discussion boards for school info and also post questions.

District 299 represents the Chicago public school system. There are home area schools and magnet schools that can feature different specialties. The City of Chicago has a website, www.cityofchicago.org where you can get a link to the public schools, and there you can type your address in and find the school that serves your area. You can contact me through my website if you need help with this.
