For someone with school age children, residing within walking distance from school may be very desirable, but less so for someone who has no school age children.
The same goes for the metro. Most people probably will appreciate the metro - mostly because it will decrease the congestion during the morning and evening hours, but not all homeowners will necessarily like residing close to the metro.
You need to purchase your HOME in the area that meets YOUR needs - if the area is reasonably nice and your home in a good condition, you'll always find a buyer for your home.
This is a link to information regarding the future Herndon Metro Station. A check of the Schools test records for the area may give you some insight as to a possible advantage of any school district over another or the total rankings of all schools in a district to compare. I don't beileve there are statistis that state a home was purchased only due to the school or a comparison that would give you a property value based on the various schools in the area.
To find the proper home value, a comparison of area sales can be done by your real estate professional. I hope this helps, but I think statistics for your question may not be available.
What i am asking is how much a school district influences the value of a townhome with around 2000 sqft. area. Also by looking at the metro coming to herndon how much would it add.

Your question about school districts is a subjective one which is one reason why we are not allowed to show any preferences. Look at what other parents and students have to say about particular schools at http://www.greatschools.org. This may help you decide which schools you think would be best for your children. Once you narrow down your search, I'd be happy to help you locate a home.

As realtors we are not allowed to show preferences regarding schoold, churches or areas. We recommend that you go to Fairfax.gov / Loudoun.gov and search the various schools to compare those areas of interest you may have regarding the schools in that area.
The price ranges vary in each area. Herndon is more established (older) and Ashburn is still growing. If you have not viewed any homes yet, that process may give you a better feel for what you would be comfortable with.
If you are ready to start searching for a home, I'd love to show you around. I live in Herndon and really enjoy the area myself. Come on out for Herndon Days coming soon. If you have other questions or want to start that search, please call me at 703-973-7742 or email at Jeanne.Little@Century21.com. I look forward to hearing from you and serving your real estate needs.
