Real Estate Agents are not allowed to comment on a variety of topics. The Fair Housing Act restricts the information that can be provided by a Real Estate Agent.

Off Limit Topics Include:
• Crime Statistic (including questions about whether a neighborhood is good or bad or safe)
• Demographics
• Environmental Concerns
• Household Income
• Religion
• Schools (including questions about how good or bad the school is)

Determining to the answers to questions on any of the topics listed above is something that you would need to do on your own. It is up to the individual to make their own determination about a specific area. If a Real Estate Agent were to comment on such a thing, it could be steering which is a prohibited act.

Donna,

I assume you are asking about the crime rate, because, in my mind, all crime rates badly. As a Realtor I risk stiff fines, and loss of my license if I give an opinion about crime in a specific location. I can however suggest you do research on the internet. Google the local police department and see if their website offers information about crime. APD has a very good website at http://www.atlantapd.org/findmyzone.aspx or check out Trulia Local's own crime heat map at http://www.trulia.com/local/#crimes/atlanta-ga

Hi Donna,

Realtors cannot legally speak on crime rate. I would suggest contacting the local authorities to ask. Also I recommend previewing the area to make sure it is a place where you are comfortable.
