We chose to build our new home in District 20 solely due to our unhappiness with District 49. The last few years we've seen a steady decline in our children's education, primarily due to budget cuts and leadership changes. District 49 voters routinely vote down initiatives to provide desperately needed funding for the schools because they don't trust the district leadership and don't feel they care about input from the parents. The teachers and staff we dealt with we're dedicated and professional but they can only do so much with the little they are given. (And don't even get me started on how badly the new school bus fee for service change was handled last year! I didn't mind paying the fee but the plan implementation was shoddy and the whole year was a nightmare of changing bus routes and stops which negatively impacted my kids' safety.) Two years ago I would have been comfortable recommending D49. Sadly, that is no longer true and I would advise newcomers to look at D20, D12 or D38 for the best education.

I would pay more attention to the particular schools than just the school district overall. Some districts are very big and there can be a huge difference from one school to the next.

People aren't always straight forward with this topic. We all know there are not so good schools yet you never(rarely) hear a parent say "Unfortunately my child goes there, or unfortunately my child went there".

The most appropriate and least subjective way to answer your question is to provide you with facts and figures so that you can decide for yourself how you believe this District will serve you and your children:

GREAT!!!! My children attended District 49 school's for 4 year's and previously attended District 20 school's which is one of the best school district's in Colorado. I was worried because of my children being in advanced program's. However it turned out great! Please feel free to contact me with any further question's. Thank you, Wendy Torres 719-459-8888

Personally, I like District 49. My children attended Falcon High School and performed exceptionally well. All school districts have their negatives and positives and I believe it's up to the parents to get involved. District 20 is one of our largest school districts and has several programs available as well as district 49. Take a look at the teacher / student ratios and test scores. All of this information can be found on line.
