Another source, although only for high schools are the annual national rankings. Newsweek current listings can be found on their website and you can search by state to find schools which rated.

Somehow, when I clicked that Berkeley school link, it says illegal link.

Anyway, the best link on school and many other info is Zipskinny http://zipskinny.com/

Hi Amparo

Please follow the others advice and check out which school is the designated school. Also, consider visiting the school and checking with the administration about over enrollment. This is a frequent problem and can result in a child not attending their "local" school.

Good luck!

Hi Amparo,

The Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) has a total of 11 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 2 high schools. The BUSD is divided into three zones for elementary schools and two zones for middles schools (with one magnet middle school). Your child's placement is based upon which zone that you live in, but it is not necessarily the closest elementary school to your house.

Below are the zones for the elementary schools:
Central - Cragmont, Oxford, Washington, Whitter
Northwest - Rosa Parks, Jefferson, Thousand Oaks
Southeast - Emerson, John Muir, Le Conte, Malcolm X

To find the zone closest to the house that you are planning to buy, vist the BUSD at http://www.berkeley.k12.ca.us., click on schools, enrollment, and then map/assignment zones. Just put in the street address and it will state your designated zone.

Best,
Mary

Hi Amparo. The MLS listing detail usually shows in which school district a property is located in. I would use that information as the starting point and call the school district directly to confirm that the address for the property that you are interested in is in that school district. You also want to ask them whether there are any plans under consideration to redraw the district boundaries. I would not go solely by information contained on a website. School websites are a good place to research the quality of a school and their test scores, but whether a particular property is located in the school district should be answered by the school district personnel. If being in a particular school district is important to you, make sure you mention that to your agent so that your agent can take that into consideration. Good luck.

Check with the local town office and let them know what section you are looking into. They can provide their web address wich usually has demographics and such for each school area broken down. You can also just put in the city you are looking into the internet and find information for schools...good luck!!
