I see your question has so far been answered by real estate agents, which too often is conflicted at best.

As an active PTA legislative chair, I go up to Sacramento as well as attend local conferences.

LAUSD, though it has some good pocket schools, overall is a nightmare...and getting worse, with no end in sight. Even if you get into a great elementary school, you will need to transfer...then what?

One needs to look at communities who are there own municipalities, with there own police, fire & schools...utilities are a good idea as well.

Some of the best elementary schools are in Burbank, Glendale & South Pasadena. Glendale is the only community who hedged against the times b putting prop S through for school infrastructure and has raised $250,000,000. Glendale also has multiple language immersion programs including, Japanese, Korean, French, and much more.

I live in the Royal Canyon neighborhood of Glendale and we have some serious homes here, and the entertainment crowd that truly does want to stay below the radar. Our elementary school is Verdugo Woodlands, and it has posted serious state scores (900+).

There is a term called the 900 Club...that's what you want when you're looking at elementary schools.

Hopefully we see a turnaround in LAUSD, but it won't be for at least a decade.

Hi Aryou,

It really depends, which part of LA you're referring to? There are great elementary schools in Pacific Palisades, Culver City, Ivanhoe Elementary in Silver Lake, Wonderland Elementary in the Hollywood Hills, Carpenter Elementary in Studio City, Lanai School in Encino , Westwood Charter in Westwood, of course the Beverly Hills' schools, 3rd St Elementary in Hancock Park, Franklin in Santa Monica etc. If you have a general area you're looking to live, I'd be happy to help you find a great public elementary school.

Dear Aryou:

I can speak from personal experience. Beverly Vista is a great school and to this day, I have long term relationships with friends whom I had graduated with. Every few years we have mini reunions. I attended Beverly Hills High School, now years later, l am active with the Associated Student Body, the theater/ music department and art department all of which I was a part of.

I am an active coordinator with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and educate awareness and support for the cancer community. ASB, the band and the theater/ art department all donate their time and entertainment to the cause. There is a real sense of a warmth in our community.

Each of the 4 elementary schools have active parents in the PTA. I am close friends with 2 of the members of the school board, if you have any questions regarding the schools, I can put you in direct contact with them.

*Please read my recent blog post regarding living in Beverly Hills and attending the schools:
http://www.trulia.com/blog/brandon_douglas/2012/01/beverly_h…

I would be more than willing to introduce you to the Principals/ teachers at either of the 4 Elementary Schools or BHHS. Beverly Vista, Horace Mann and Beverly Hills High of which I personally know very well; some of which I had graduated with or had as teachers.

( Another great school is Le Lycee, a French based International private school in Culver City, with a 2nd location in Silver Lake. The curriculum is based on cultures and teach the students to be bi-lingual and globally aware. Sherman Oaks has a highly rated elementary school called DIxie Canyon Elementary, just off of Coldwater Canyon on Ventura Blvd)

I'd be happy to answer any further questions you may have regarding the schools or the City in general.

While you're in town, visit the Beverly Hills Library.

All my best,
