Does Johnston County schools have resources for special needs children?

Asked by April Barkley, Wilson, NC Wed Dec 17, 2008

We are moving to the area and my stepson is diagnosed with high functioning autism. He currently lives in Maryland and the school system's resources are slacking to say the least. We want to make sure the resources are available without having to move to Wake County. Which is more expensive and more crowded.

Johnston County has good schools, but like most areas, some are better then others. You can contact the school main offices at 919-934-2586 to inquire about resources for special needs children. I have nephews in the schools here in Johnston county, and a sister-in-law teaches elementary school here, and they all have high opinions of the schools. Please feel free to let me know if you need anymore info.

You might be able to look into private school, some health insurance companies cover education needs. Contact ISD for public schools also request for private schools.

April,

The best source for this information is the school itself. Get in contact with the main office so they can refer you to the right department.

Good luck
