Can a child attend a public school in Cambridge if they don't live there?

We're just moving to Somerville from Cambridge but we put our child's name on the waitlist for pre-K at a Cambridge public school over a year ago. We'd love for her to attend if this is possible.

Thanks for your help!

Thats great! I hope they will continue to let her stay within the school system so she can go to Kindergarten with her friends from Head Start!

Thanks for that, I gave them a call and was transferred over to the Head Start programme (turns out what I was looking for wasn't even Pre-K, but Head Start - I need to learn the system pronto!). Apparently that does cover both Cambridge and Somerville so my daughter will be able to attend the school.

Hi DM,

I dont know about Cambridge specifically, but I havent come across a public school in MA that does. Regional Schools usually do though. Property Taxes contribute towards the cost of running the schools, and if you dont reside in the community (rent or own), then they dont usually allow it. Your best source for your answer though would be to contact the school district.
