I have 3 children in school. One elementary, middle and one college. All 3 of my girls attended a private Catholic school until this year. Due to health reasons, we were forced to look at our public school system. I can tell you from personal experience that all schools need to be visited and looked at by you. All schools have their pro's and con's so don't be persuaded without taking a personal look. Our county school system in Lakeland & Collierville seem to get high marks from most of my customers but other districts are appealing. My children are attending "city" schools and we were very concerned, but as you can see from my previous remarks on trulia, we were impressed in our elementary and not so much in the middle school. My youngest in loving her new school and comfortable uniforms! My middle is homebound and our city school system sends in a teacher for her one on one.

Again, welcome to our area. Take a look at http://www.greatschools.net and compare our schools to your current school system. If you still need help.... I have several parents with school children who would be happy to talk to you.

I moved from Highlands Ranch, CO myself 4 years ago my children attended Platte River Academy (a charter school), needless to say in our own home search we found those to be non-existent. We did however settle on Arlington & while I am living in TN, this is where my children will attend school. I have 1 at the elementary & there is a brand new one being built as we speak, 1 at the middle & they just opened Bon Lin middle to relieve some of the growth & 2 at the high school, 2008 was the first graduating class there. While you are reading everyones comments follow their links & see what all of the schools are rated. There are also some very top notch private schools & along with that comes top notch $$. If you don't mind paying for private Fayette county is a great choice & Neal is right Tipton county has some wonderful schools as well a vast growing area. Hope you find what you are looking for.

I notice the other people have not even mentioned the possibilities of going to the Tipton County schools. If you use the link on my web page http://www.NealMasters.com, you can check out not only the Memphis and Shelby County schools, but also the Tipton County schools. The schools in Tipton include Munford, Brighton and Covington. If I can be of any other assistance, please e-mail me.

Hi, Jen -

I understand your concern regarding the public schools in Memphis , Germantown, Collierville and other nearby communities. As a parent and as a former teacher, I share your concerns. I spent almost 15 years in classrooms in both public schools and private schools in the Memphis area before beginning my real estate career 11 years ago. I can tell you that there are definitely some great public schools in the areas you mentioned. There seems to be a lot of negativity in the press about our public schools. Some of them are struggling, that's true, but many of the schools here are doing a terrific job educating the students and graduating well prepared college freshmen. The parents of these current students are probably your best resource for information.

I suggest you go to these website - http://www.scsk12.org (Shelby County Schools ) & http://www.mcsk .net (Memphis City Schools) and then click on the websites for the individual schools. Read about their programs, their activities and their philosophy of teaching. Look over the current teachers' credentials. Check for parent involvement in the school, as well. This can tell you how popular the school is with the parents.

Good luck with your search for information. If I can help you in any way, please feel free to contact me.
