When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase, or not, in specific neighborhoods.
Hi, best bet is to check out Trulia's crime map tool at
You can look into a specific area, neighborhood, intersection or zip code.

You will be hard pressed to find a real estate professional that will tell you that an area is safe or not safe, due to liability, steering, etc. My best advice to you is to drive by the area that you are interested at varied times of the day and night throughout the week to try to get a feel for if it "safe" to you. If you would like to go on a home tour or have any other questions regarding financing, etc., feel free to contact me directly and I would be happy to assist you.
