Selling a home can be an overwhelming process. In an effort to save money many people try to complete this process without the assistance of a REALTOR®. Is this a good idea? Do you really need to

This is a most unfortunate situation....one that inconveniences everyone involved and increases the amount of work necessary to eventually close the deal.
The fact of the matter is your agent was giving you the best advice they could at the time. Agents are skilled in amny, many areas....being able to see into the future is not one of them!
Let's play this scenario through with you remaining in the property until the day of the closing. When would you propose the final walk through be done? Should this event be done with the seller's furnishngs in place? How would you propose the home be empty and vacant as soon as the property closes? Would you propose remaining in the home after the closing? This presents an entirely different set of logestical problems.
Unfrtunately, these things happen.....the best thing we can do is to accept it, trying to minimize expense and inconvenience, hoping for the best.
Your agent did nothing wrong here other than provide you with the best advise available at the time.
You should contact a local REALTOR and let them know that you are interested in doing a lease purchase on your home. I'm not sure about the St Augustine area, but here in South Florida I get a lot of requests from potential buyers who would like to do a lease purchase.
The one issue that might come into play is if your neighborhood has a mandatory golf membership, that might limit your options.
