Based on finances, I'm unable to move this year but I'm doing a ton of research to review what area would be best (with or without a car), what's more affordable and friendly. It appears that I should be good to go sometime in June or July 2014. I will be moving from PA and probably driving across country.
I've looked into the North End, Stadium District and University. I would prefer to stay closer to the hustle and bustle of life. Not quite ready for the 'suburban' lifestyle yet.
Welcome to the Northwest! Once you've been here a while you'll realize we can't let weather dictate our lives. Other than picnics in the park are little league baseball games, we just go about our business as usual.
Now, because we are so far north, our winters tend to be both wet and dark. By 5:00 it can be pitch black from Nov-Feb. This may be the toughest time to make the move just because people tend to rush inside and avoid the cold & wet. The good news is we get very little snow, some years none at all.
As others have said, I'd encourage you to come as soon as you're ready. September & early October can be beautiful. If you miss that, check back in the spring. We hope to see you soon.
The best time to move based on the weather is June till September. The best area would depend on your commute distance, whether or not you are buying or renting and if you prefer a condo or single family home.
Let me know and I would be happy to help you further.
