What's the best way to get an apartment when moving to a new place and having no credit history, only being 18 years old?

Asked by Shamar Dozier, Bethlehem, CT Sun Jul 22, 2012

Me and my friend are in the process of driving across country to move to San Diego, CA. We're looking for a 2 bedroom for around $1000 a month or less. Any suggestions for how we should go about this, we're trying to approach it the best way to avoid not having a place to live when we move out there.

Having no credit is far better than having bad credit. If you can show no bad credit and can show some references from the past and that you have a job then you have a good chance. If you have no job any landlord will wonder how you will pay them. Offering to pay 2 or more months in advance and keeping it paid in advance is a trick that might help while you get some good credit history.
