What is the best time of year to go apartment hunting?

Asked by Thomas Samph, New York, NY Fri Nov 2, 2012

I'm thinking of moving and I am doing everything I can to get the best possible price on an apartment. When will I be able to get the most competitive rates from bikers?

I own rental properties in the Philadelphia Area. I structure all my leases to end between March and July of each year when the demand (higher number of tenants looking for a new place to rent) is highest.

Since I'm one of the local apartment game wardens I say anytime you need an apartment. The apartment hunting season is about 30 to 60 days before you need to move in this also depends on your current lease and how much notice is required by your current landlord . Anytime starting from the middle of this month to the new year would be a good time. You'll have less competition and can negotiate the best price. I'm not sure what bikers have to do with rates.
