You should first review your lease to make sure the terms are clear on termination of the lease from your landlord. Something as simple as late payments can be grounds to terminate a lease.

Best of luck to you!

The answers below are all very informative. You will need to do some more research and then determine whether or not you need an attorney.

I agree with Jim. You don't provide us enough information to help you and an attorney may be the best qualified. Here are some websites to help you research:

Wishing you the best,

Daphne,
We aren't lawyers, and they can be expensive, so I've attached a link to the New Jersey Landlord Tenant Law. Without more information no one can really advise you beyond looking into your rights and seeking legal help.
Start by reading over the link and searching out specifics that will apply to your situation. Once you have a better idea what the law is, you will either know how to handle this yourself or be in a better position to speak intelligently with an attorney. Best of luck.

Daphne...Need a whole lot more info and probably an attorney to answer this one. Did the landlord terminate the lease early? If so, why? Did he lose the property to foreclosure? Too many unknowns. Could provide a better opinion with more info...
