There are a few neighborhoods that could work for you. Are you going to be commuting to downtown on a daily basis? Here is a link to 40 homes available for lease in Austin under $2000 a month. Search for 13513 Albania Way, Austin TX 78729 on Zillow or Trulia under rentals. This is a house that we have there that will be available in May.

Great house, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths - $1550 per month.

We are in NW Austin, well under a 30 minute commute from 78728.…

I may have a rental this summer in the Balcones Wood neighborhood 78759. Two story 4 bedroom. Great neighborhood.

Good Morning! I live and work very close to the 78728 zip code and I do lease homes and apartments. I am presuming from your message that you will work in the 78728 area code. Unfortunately, this is not the best area in Austin to live, however, there are many places within 30 minutes that will most likely suit your needs. As indicated by a few others, we can set up a search for your preferences and you can be reviewing the homes until you decide to come visit, see the areas, check the schools out for yourself, and narrow it down from there. I can also send you a link to the school district information for all of Austin, so that you can review them. The best "ranked" school district within 30 minutes of 78728 is Leander Independent School District. Depending on how long you want to lease for, do you need to think about high schools as well or are you coming in for a contract job that will end at a certain point in time? Where is your work going to be located and how far of a drive you would like? This is the key to locating the right area and schools for your search. If you could tell me this I can easily guide you in your selection. I have a website that will allow you to search an area, look at the rankings of the schools the demomgraphics of shopping and all the things you will need to make the search easier for you. I can recommend a great leasing agent. She has her own company that specializes in leasing she is very familiar with all the schools current ratings and neighborhoods best suited for your criteria. I myself do not do leases, she is my go to gal with all clients needing this service. Have a great Day!

I would love to help you. Please check out my recommendations - I have a wide range of knowledge of neighborhoods in Austin and know the Austin rental market well!

I work with several Owners/Realtors/Property Managers who do not list on MLS but who will call me to find them someone - the hidden market in Austin. I like to find the "right match" for both the tenant and the landlord.

Hi Michele,

Between now and late April, we can setup an automated search for you based on selecting homes to lease served only by middle schools rated Exemplary, priced $2,200 or less (I suggest this price because you may have the option to negotiate a little bit, and sometimes the initial offered price is adjusted lower if the place doesn't rent initially).

With an automated search, you'll have your own personal website that's focused on only what qualifies for your specific needs. It will search all leases from all sources. You can save your favorites, make comments so that we can understand what it is about a particular place that interests you, and importantly, you can delete places that simply don't meet your needs, helping you to focus on just the ones that do.

By having this setup now, you'll have time to get comfortable with what's available, and you'll be better prepared when the time is right, rather than just dropping in to Austin 30 days before you need to be here.

I don't do leases, save special circumstances, though I know some terrific leasing agents. Curious what you mean by long-term - more than 18 months? Let me know if I can point you to an expert.

enen though Austin is experiencing a shortage of homes for rent, the MLS is populated on a daily basis with new listing.
For your price range, you can definitly find a home doe rent in an area with good schools that includes Lakeway and Bee Cave with their examplary Lake Travis schools.

The rental market is very fast paced here in Austin. For the most part if a home is in decent shape and priced for the location it will rent in a matter of days. I'd be happy to help when the time approaches, about 30 days from move in. Contact me direct if you want me to help.
