Hello Annette:

Congratulations on your move to the Bay Area! It is truly a wonderful place.

There are so many great parts to the city of San Francisco and the surrounding cities and townships. If you are moving into the city of San Francisco then you have several areas to choose from and very few have reputations for their crime level. A few areas that come to mind to avoid, but are changing very quickly, are The Tenderloin, Western Addition, Mid-Market, and the Inner Mission as you get into the higher street numbers (20th to Cesar Chavez).

Here is a link to one of my favorite sites that will help you get an understanding of our various neighborhoods: http://www.sanfranciscodays.com

Best of luck to you!

Hello Annette,

Here are some useful websites :

http://www.crimemapping.com/map.aspx
http://www.sfusd.edu

There are many options in SF and recommendations would depend on a number of factors-too many to innumerate here.
If you'd like additional information feel free to contact me.

Most areas of the city are safe and crime is random. But the answer may lay in the other facts at play: what schools will be the kids be going to? How long will your commute be? What do you like doing while home? Do you have a yard? Garage? Do you drive? The answers to those questions suggest different neighborhoods. If you're commuting for long bouts of time you're away from home more; if you drive you'd want a garage. And if your kids will go to private school the it all changes again as does having a backyard or not as the proximity to parks may matter more if your home lacks a yard. Shoot me a message and we can discuss more.

Hello Annette,

In San Francisco, the majority of the Irish community is in Sunset District. In San Mateo County, the majority is in the city of Burlingame. The Irish Immigration and Pastoral Center can be a big help, ask for Celine or Natasha http://www.sfiipc.org. Celine often puts out announcements for those looking for housing. The Bay Area Irish Community is well known for helping each other out.

Foster City is one of the best/safe places for renting, it also has some of the best schools, VERY family friendly. San Francisco is quite pricy and sometimes will not allow your kids to attend nearby schools.

You can access this website to find rentals: http://www.phyllisfindshomes.com. You can also access school scores on this site.

Please be aware you should never have to pay a fee to find a rental. When you arrive, call me directly, I cam help.

In general San Francisco is very safe but you may consider Bernal Heights or Glen Park or the Sunset area and the Marina. I have homes there for rent. Here are some videos. You can contact me at glopez@amsiemail.com or to my cell 415-312-5017 I have home coming in and out all the time.
