If you decide on the South Bay/Beach Cities area, please contact me and I can provide you with additional information. I agree with Ryan below regarding the schools, but I would also add Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach and El Segundo.

Hello,

Congrats on your decision to move to Los Angeles!

Real estate agents are legally not allowed to steer clients towards specific schools or neighborhoods.

Here are a couple of websites where you can research school ratings for yourself:

http://www.greatschools.org/california/los-angeles/

http://www.school-ratings.com/counties/Los_Angeles.html

http://projects.latimes.com/schools/

http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/ca/los-angeles/schools/

Hope I could be of help!

Please feel free to contact me with any real estate needs or questions. I would be happy to help you find a property to lease or purchase when you are ready!

There are many great schools in LA, but geographically, the LA metro area is huge. I believe every pocket has it's good schools, though depending on where your job is. I'm assuming you're leaning more toward public vs. private.

In the Valley, I would say Granada Hills/Encino, and on the other side, Calabasas/Thousand Oaks.

Immediately in LA, I would say Palisades, Santa Monica, or Beverly Hills.

San Gabriel Valley, all of them, really (Temple City, San Gabriel, Gabrelino) but specifically San Marino, South Pasadena, and Arcadia schools are well known.

South Bay, I would say Palos Verdes, and most of Torrance.

South LA County, Cerritos are known for their EXCELLENT public school system! (I'm a proud product!)

Anyhow, I could go on and on, but these are my suggestions. If you need any assistance, I would be glad to help and I really cover a big area of geography in my expertise.

Thanks!

Best of luck on your move to Cali!!!!

I hope you find a school you like. Too bad Orange County is not on your radar!! We have some cities with awesome school districts!!! In which all the schools perform above state standards!

Many of the best Private schools in the country are here in LA county. These are schools such as Viewpoint, Harvard Westlake, Brentwood and Buckley and they are located in the San Fernando Valley/Los Angeles area. It is, however, extremely important to weigh your options. Some of the private schools in LA are renowned for their ability to place students in good universities but the price of these private schools can cost as much as the universities themselves. I would know because I graduated from one of these very schools.

There are also some of the best public schools in the country here in LA county, but the real estate values surrounding these schools vary greatly. For example, Calabasas schools are known as some of the best public education in the state, however the average sales price in Calabasas is $1,721,716. Comparable schools are Granada Hills High where the average price for a house in the city is 408,389 and El Camino in Woodland Hills where there is currently an avg price of 641,800 for a house. These are all Trulia numbers by the way.

Middle schools in LA County also vary in much the same ways however their level of education is not expressed in comparable standards as they are with High Schools and upper level education. With Middle School you can choose between private and public schools but it doesn't make as big a difference in the student's chances of getting into college. However, many of these private middle schools specialize in getting students into the local high caliper Private High Schools where admission can be extremely competitive.

There are so many award winning schools here in LA, both private and public charter schools. How far do you want to drive from where you will be living and working? North Los Angeles area such as Santa Clarita, where I moved to because of the schools for my son, there are exceptional middle and high Schools in the Hart District.
You know as parents you'll also want your children to be invlved with their community as well so I would recommend scouting the schools close to where you"ll live and work after all school is one important part of their life but so is your involvement and time...less driving, more time:)

Good luck and happy house hunting!
