Moving out after a break up

My boyfriend and I are both named on a rental lease. If we break up and I move out, am I still responsible for my portion of the rent for the remainder of the lease? This is in Westchester county NY.

Hi, I recommend talking with your landlord. Each situtaion is unique to what is in the lease agreement. You can also contact an attorney if need be.

Kay, Sorry about your break-up. As John said, Check with your Landlord for specific obligations. Most likely a lease is a contract that you both are reasonable for the time you agreed on.

This is a question only you and your landlord could know the exact answer to. The terms on your cancellation should be on your rental agreement, but I would put a call into my landlord asap to see what they have to say. You might get a few more responses on here, but your best bet is to hear it from the horses mouth.
