Rentals in Ravenswood>Question Details

Sis, Renter in Chicago, IL

Moving back to Chicago from Atlanta. I'm looking for a 3 bdrm 2 or 3 bath home to rent. Preferably in the Ravenswood area.

Asked by Sis, Chicago, IL Mon Aug 15, 2011

An area close to Ravenswood would be great as long as it's safe. I am looking to spend no more than $1500 per month in rent. I would prefer a single family home.

The "single family home" part is the most significant challenge. Frankly, Ravenswood doesn't offer a lot of rentable single-family homes; most rental properties in that area are multifamily. I'd tell you to seek a condo in Lincoln Square, but then you run into budget problems. You might be looking at a 3 bedroom/1 bath in a multifamily building, or a 2/2. If you can afford upwards of $1800/month, you'll have a lot more options.

Because of your limited budget, I suggest contacting Rahm, or Mayor Emanuel as some members of the public call him. He is currently Ravenswood's most recognizable resident, and considering the size of his home, and cuts to the city budget, he would probably be willing to take in a boarder...just make sure you sign the disclaimer saying you won't run against him in the next election. Good luck.

You wont be able to find a house for this much. I would get a good rental agent. This way you have someone to walk you through the rental process, at no cost to you. They can help navigate you in the right direction and find something that fits your budget.

that is not a reasonable rental budget for that area- if you were to find something it would be out of code and proabaly have a hazard asspect. close to Ravenswood at 1500 a month would be west rodgers park.. and just so you know..noboday on this fourm can tell you if its a "safe"- that is a relevent term you have to decide on..a busy street is safe ..unless you have small children who like to ride bikes on it...good luck.

Thre are zero choices for that criteria and unlikely to be in the near future. From time to time you might find a 3/2 in a small condo building, but not a house. If you can go beyond Ravenswood it might open up more choices. I can send you the past rentals in that area so you can see what you actually can get for a 3/2 @ 1500/mo......

How soon are you looking to move, when will you be in the area?
Are a basement and garage important to you?
