Just learned that Eldorado does not have a high school. Have not heard great things about Capital High, how is Santa Fe High School?

Santa Fe High is a horrible cesspool, only slightly better than Capital High. Avoid it.

I believe a parent can make a tremendous difference in a child's high school experience. If you are engaged, accessible and supportive, it will help a lot in achieving academic goals--no matter where your child attends school.

Santa Fe High is everything. Kids go Ivy from here all the time. (Its a lot easier for a qualified student from Santa Fe public schools to get into a good college than from other places). Many others at Santa Fe High are definitely on the Cholo track. If you are expecting some homogenized type high school from a leafy neighborhood Back East, that's not the Demons. If your kid is at risk to get into trouble, watch out.

One nice thing about Santa Fe is that it has a Junior College that won't quit. You can duplicate the first year of a quality liberal arts college there, and I'm not kidding. If my kid were academically ambitious, I'd start putting him into community college classes at the first opportunity.

Eldo Public schools at least elementary schools are overrated in my opinion. Maybe a junior high is better. The public junior highs are pretty much like a black hole. Put your kid into a charter school or go private. Wood Gormley elementary and Acequia Madre elementary are excellent by anyone's standards.

Correct, Eldorado has an elementary and a middle school, both of which are highly rated. The high school for Eldorado is Santa Fe High, but I believe parents can choose to send their kids to Capitol High if they wish. The general scorecard reports notwithstanding, there are good students and good faculty at both, and students with the right attitude and with support at home can excel.
