Julie Yu, Renter in Honolulu, HI

Is this one scam (http://www.trulia.com/rental/3100208374-1050-Lunalilo-St-Honolulu-HI-96822)?

Asked by Julie Yu, Honolulu, HI Mon Nov 19, 2012

The "agent" claimed this unit (1050 Lunalilo St, Honolulu HI 96822, provided address without unit #) is newly remodeled and asked for money to make reservation. I googled "(972) 302-8596" contact number and found multiple low price/luxury rental through out country. Please confirm.

No unit number, out of state phone number and it lists a "fireplace." I don't think so. Would skip that one and report it to Trulia.

it's a scam. you can never reach this guy. I would suggest looking at management companies. You will see many listings here on legit management companies websites and the rent is usually much more. If there is no contact number, assume it is a scam

Probably is a scam. #1 don't send money to anyone. #2 Be suspicious of anyone who does not have a telephone number which includes the local area code. #3 Don't rent a property until you have met the owner or agent and seen the inside of the property.

Although my rentals are posted online I do not rent to anyone who has not seen the property nor met with me or my agent. Legitimate owners or agents would never ask for money before showing the property and meeting the prospective tenant. Most agents also require an application and order a credit report before accepting a tenant.

Be safe; not sorry. Deal with local agents and owners and don't give $$ to anyone until you have met them and seen the property.
