Is house rental in Bexley/Grandview/U. Arlington under $1500 reasonable?

Asked by brooklynwhite, Columbus, OH Mon May 12, 2014

We're relocating to Columbus, OH in a few months. Eventually, we'd like to buy a home but for the mean time would like to try out a neighborhood by renting for the first year. We'd prefer to rent a single family house but are willing to consider a town house or condo situation as well. Is it reasonable to find this for under $1500 in the Bexley, Grandview Heights or Upper Arlington neighborhoods? Also, in Columbus is a realtor traditionally paid by the renter or the property owner when dealing with rental properties?

Depending on your specific requirements $1500 isn't out of the question. However, these are some of the more desirable neighborhoods so it would be helpful to know what your needs are such as how many bedrooms, baths, and so forth. Typically I've seen Realtors charge a flat fee when providing assistance for a rental which is paid by the renter. It is possible that property owners will pay a referral bonus a Realtor however this is more common in the larger apartment complexes and almost never when dealing with single family homes.
