I'd also recommend that start with the local housing authority. http://www.hud.gov/local/nc/renting/hawebsites.cfm , I'd check in Concord, Matthews, Pineville, Lincolnton, Mooresville, Harrisburg. Charlotte, Gastonia, Concord / Kannapolis, Monroe, Indian Trail, NC and Fort Mill and Rock Hill, SC. If you are determined to rent, socialserve has a good website with a disabled search capacity.

But are you sure you are not able to purchase? There are a lot of incentives and assistance available. I'd research http://www.nchfa.com/ and ask about the options when you talk to Charlotte Housing Authority (704) 336-5183 . If you want to explore options for ownership, please contact me.

Jayjay,
I would encourage you to check with the Charlotte Housing Authority also. You might want to look in the surrounding counties too. There are some very friendly small towns surrounding Charlotte with housing for the disabled. I would look in Fort Mill, Concord, Matthews, Pineville, Lincolnton, Mooresville, Harrisburg. If your disability is related to service in the military, then we have a VA clinic on Harrris Blvd. and a hospital in Salisbury. When I google housing for disabled with the small town names, I get housing authority departments associated with the town. I would encourage you to explore all of your options.
