If someone paints their apartment bedroom a strange color (say pink), are they required to paint it back to a neutral color when they leave?

Most leases require tenants to return the apartment in the same condition that they received it & there's usually a stipulation in there referencing that a certain portion of the security deposit will be retained if the apartment is not returned in said condition.

Tenants are required to return the property in the same condition they received it minus normal wear and tear. However it depends on your lease. If it doesn't clearly state so then paint all you want. You also want to be sure you can paint otherwise a portion of your security can be held for painting expenses.

If I were their landlord or property manager, I would certainly insist. However, it is more important to look at the lease. If they are not legally obligated to do so, forget about it.

Tenants are required to return the property in the same condition as when they received it in.

In NYC, Many leases state that Apts, cannot be painted without permission & if painted, usually neutral colors only..
ALWAYS READ UR LEASE AND GO BY THAT, U CAN CHECK WITH UR MANG, LANDLORD, OWNER and see what if any u can paint and what colors/shades if any r possible..

Many leases that I see do state that rooms cannot be painted without permission & if painted, neutral colors only

That simply would depend on what the lease dictates and/or what tenant and landlord had agreed upon.

Yes, you are required to return it back to the original condition.
