Canarsie is probably in the best spot if you're driving. The Belt Parkway is minutes away from Flatlands and gets you to LI in no time. If you're using public transportation, then that's a different question. You may want to consider somewhere close to Atlantic Terminal as suggested.

It of course depends on many factors: Driving or LIRR? Buying or renting? Budget?
If you are diving areas with easier parking at a reasonable cost or safer street parking? All depends on your budget but most roads get you out to Long Island and many areas are reasonable for driving to Long Island from Brooklyn, Easterly obviously will save a bit of time, but as you would be reverse commuting from most of the traffic... LIRR means Fort Greene, N/W Park Slope or Boreum Hill to be close to the Atlantic Centre stop or on the more modest price range Bed Sty for the Nostrand Ave stop.
The bottom line: Budget will be the deciding factor.

Thanks for all the info I am renting with 2 others. As far as the budget about $3,000. I would be taking the LIRR however still want the ability to get to the highway fast.
