haha Janet...I saw the excerpt from your answer on the front page and was like, "wow, bold choice"...but then I re-read the question and decided I wish we were friends.

I hear DOS is recruiting testers. Wonder if the new crop is planting some of these questions. I have no problem with fair housing laws in general (although it drives me nuts that those of us who follow the rules have to compete with the agents on "MIllion Dollar Listing", who have jaw-dropping conversations about neighborhoods, etc)...but maybe the Licensing Division should do a little extra training on nuance.

Than again, maybe they're just aiming for the low-hanging fruit. If you violate the law and lose your license, do you have to pay a fine? That might explain some of this lunacy...

RANT OVER. Thanks.

Tom's statement below is correct. Fair Housing Law prohibits discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations based on race, color, creed, age, national origin, alienage or citizenship status, gender, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, and partnership status.

There are several sites that you can visit to learn more about Fair Housing. and

Please review the above information.

I hope this information is helpful.

I think $800 is a little low for Manhattan.

Hope you're not an agent. You're violating a bunch of Fair Housing laws.
A real estate salesperson in NY can't get into anything in regard to race, age, children in talking about an apt.

Thank you for sharing this response. I assume this gentleman figured his options would be wider if people know he is white and without children. Shame.
