Thank you for your question Tamesha:

John Juarez gave you an excellent answer. The property that you have linked to is 252 Omira Drive. The fair market rent for that property is over $3,000 per month, yet the ad says $1,500 per month.

Essentially as John Juarez pointed out that is a scam designed to steal your money, or your identity or both.

Unfortunately there are some scam artists who have been taking information for properties listed for sale and then posting the same information about the property but advertising that property for rent at an amount of money that is half or less than half the amount that property would normally rent for.

The scam is designed to get desperate people who are looking for a place to rent and offer them something that is too good to be true. The scam artists then collect your security deposit and prepaid rent and disappear with your money.

This is a particularly cruel scam because it is targeted at people who can least afford the loss. Now the poor renter has lost their security deposit money and prepaid rent money to a scammer and has no money for a security deposit or prepaid rent money and now cannot rent a place to live at all.

One of the best ways to protect yourself against this scam is to check with the State of California Department of Real Estate to make certain that the person who wants to take your security deposit and prepaid rent has an active Real Estate License with the State of California Department of Real Estate. Do not take their word for it that they have an active Real Estate License. Ask them for their Real estate License number and then check with the State of California Department of Real Estate whether that is an active and valid Real Estate License number and what is the name and contact information for the Real Estate Licensee. Make certain that the person that your are giving your money to is the same person as the the one with the Real Estate License.

The house that you linked to was recently offered for sale on the mls for a very short time (only 2 days) and then the listing was cancelled. The asking price was $550,000. It is hard for me to believe that same house is being offered for rent for only $1,500 per month.

Be very careful of rental scams that are so pervasive on the internet.

Do an internet search for “property managers 95123” and you will see lots of hits for property managers. Make some phone calls and you may find what you are looking for.
