All landlords will consider your credit score. However, it is always best to be upfront and honest. It might take a little extra time, but I would suggest pulling a copy of your credit and writing a letter to help offer an explanation to the potential landlord. Also, sometimes offering an additional months rent helps to indicate you are serious in making a secure move. Unfortunately a current landlord's reference does not mean a lot for the simple fact of they may give you a great reference to help get you out of their apartment. Now if you have paid rent receipts or canceled checks showing you paid on time... that will go a long way!

I would try craigslist and deal with an owner directly. Most agents will require an application with a credit report. But if you deal directly with an owner most of the time they don't have the means to pulling a report and you'll have a much better chance.

Hi Tiffany,

You might try offering to provide a copy of your credit report with explainations, rather than asking for it not to be considered.
