There are 2 stops on the VRE train (Manassas line) in Burke: Rolling Rd and Burke Centre. The commute to Crystal City from these stops take from 30-20 minutes. The VRE also connects to the Metro at the King Street stop (blue line) which will take you directly to the Pentagon.

There is the Metro Bus Line 18P that is a direct express to the Pentagon metro. It takes about 35-40 mins in the morning and closer to an hour on the way home. If you aren't near a bus stop serviced by the 18P, the 18H and 18G also go to the Pentagon, but they aren't express buses, so it would take longer. The express fare is 3.75 one way, so a little over $7 a day round trip.

As pointed out by many, it depends on time of day. It can range from 30 minutes on a good day to hour plus on bad day using main roads. If your home is not near main routes, it could take longer.

Hello Heather,
Your question is very general. The commute time depends on the type of transportation and the time of the day. During the rush hour it will take longer, without rush hour and normal traffic, driving might take about 20 to 30 minutes. All that being said, there are many people live in Burke and commute to the Pentagon, there are many options to travel between Burke & Pentagon in the morning and end of work day.

There's a VRE train station in Burke that can take you to Crystal City in less than 30 minutes. If you use this train, the fares are reimbursed if you are working for the federal government or the military.
Please register at my website:, it's a free account and you can browse available homes in Burke. Happy to help with your search.

Depends on a few things, like what are you commuting in? I used to pass thru Burke and by the Pentagon on my way to DC from Manassas. In my hybrid, I could use the HOV lanes of 295, which shaved a lot of time off. You can enjoy the same benefits in a van pool. I know nothing about mass transit options from there, but I think Burke is a good option for a military family with orders to the Pentagon. Best of luck...

That depends if you are driving or taking public transportation and the time of day that you are leaving. I would have to say about an hour. If you are in the market to buy in Burke and you need an agent, please call me at 703-625-6731 or email me at
