My mother went online to pay to be qualified to rent a home. Upon being approved she received an email informing her to contact their office to set up a time to meet at the property for what they called "Final Walk Through" She also received an email stating for her to bring two cashier's checks for Deposit and 1st Mo. and for her to have all Utility Acct #'s upon arriving at appt. Since I thought this was odd I advised my mother to hold off on the utilities. I also accompanied her on the Appt for her to see inspect the property and sign the lease.
Upon arriving my mother had several questions that they could not answer. The man was young, dressed very casual/unprofessional, and got very rude with us when we didn't want to hand over our money and sign the lease then and there until he got back to us on some of our concerns on the property. We asked if we would pay the Deposit to Hold it until he was able to address our concerns, He said yes, but he'd call us to make appt to have us come into office. We never heard from him until my mother received a letter stating that she owed them for the Credit check and background fees which, we have proof we paid it online, then we received another letter stating that she was denied due to insufficient credit (Because she pays everything cash). This entire situation with My Smart Lease.Com proved to me that they only wanted our money and wanted it fast as well as being discriminated against because we noticed a lot of problems with the house especially the Gas Leak we detected. They probably were afraid we'd reprot them. I am currently doing a background investigation into them . Thank you again, for your time.
