I recommend using a reputable agent who is familiar with the rental market in Chicago. Do a Face-time walk through or use Skype so you can see the agent touring the home and at the same time you will be able to direct the agent and ask questions. I do this with a lot of my overseas investors and it works like a charm,

The most options for you will be on the market 30-45 days before your planned lease start date. Are you planning a trip to Chicago in that time period?
Beware of Craigslist posting. I know a few people who rented unit through there sight unseen and they sometimes do not really exist and you deposits are gone with the wind.
