It is difficult but not impossible. Landlords shy away from section 8 because often times those tenants who have not had to work hard for the things they have, tend not to take good care of them, and that tendency can spill over to the way they care for the apartment. I have such an experience, the tenant broke the terms of the lease, brought in pets when they were forbidden, and then did not take good care of the pets so that the apartment was pretty much trashed by the time she moved out.

You may be able to over come that impression, however. Not every section 8 tenant is careless. If you can get references from your former landlord saying you kept the apartment in good order and obeyed the rules, that would help. Personal references would also help. Anything you can do to overcome that impression would help.

Good Luck!
