Having pets eliminates over 50% of the rentals on the market. A two bedroom in a "safe" neighborhood probably starts around $1800 per month. Then there's the credit issue.. I think that your best bet is to work with a local property management company or apartment community.

Best of luck.

Hello Stephanie, there are currently 15 rental choices to choose from in Long Beach and Lakewood under $1,300 but only two accept animals. You can be set up to receive automatic daily emails to fit your search criteria. You should study RENT vs BUY options as you may even qualify to buy with minimum out of pocket expenses and pay less than rent in many cities.

The purchase start from 130k for 1bd 1ba condo and there are currently 8 choices of 1-2bd 1-2ba condos under 170k which is from $700 down to maximum $850 down with a minimum 580 fico score to qualify. It only takes a few dozen questions to qualify, go over your options and email you listings to study and compare. Credit scores can be raised within 3-4 days in most cases to qualify for programs, rates and terms as necessary. Here are some blogs to read and study such as RENT vs BUY, Which loan is right for me, Down payment and closing costs hurdles and Pre-approval in minutes.…………

Oh and by pets, I mean just one small cat. I'm looking for a move in of July 1st. I've worked at the same company in Long Beach for 5 years and my children attend school here. I've lived in the same long beach apartment for 7 years so I'm a great stable tenant. I'm currently in North Long Beach and just looking for something a little safer. My goal is for a place that my kids can ride their bikes around and enjoy a true community.
