Can I put a closet system in a room that does not have a closet and it be considered a legal bedroom?

Check with your township on legal description - closet and window count, but grade can as well, ie, is the area fully above grade. I ran in to this question on a home and it caused a lot of confusion. It was the appraiser who questioned it.

Be careful not to misrepresent. If it is a movable piece of furniture, it is not the same as a built in closet. Have I seen it done that way?....yes.

Hi Janet yes you can add a closet and if the room has a window then you can work to change your deed and or tax records to show it is a two bedroom.
If you are in a condominium building then be sure to review your by laws.
Hope that helps!
