Cheryl Ash, Home Buyer in Cleveland, OH

Are there any listings that would not require good credit?

Asked by Cheryl Ash, Cleveland, OH Wed Feb 27, 2013

I am a single mother of two small children. I was hoping to find a two-bedroom rent to own home or an apartment that would fit my needs in the old brooklyn/Parma area. My credit isn't very good.

Hi Cheryl,

Most landlords now require credit checks. It may be possible to discuss with them your issues, maybe they will consider it with a larger down payment/deposit or work something out with them. You may want to check Craigslist or Cleveland.com to see apartments for rent and call around. There are rental scams out there, so make sure you don't give anyone any money until you've checked that they are the owner (public records, auditor's website) and I'd even ask for ID to prove it. Especially if you contact anyone on Craigslist. It's tough with bad credit, but not impossible. Good luck!
