how can i contact the homeowner of a property i've been offered to rent to own ?

Asked by Michellenavarro12, Thu Aug 9, 2012

supposely the man i met with (Craigslist advertisement) at the house says the house is owned by his sister and he has fallen behind in the mortgage and he wants to sell it as.

This sounds super fishy Michelle. You can't rent to own it from brother. He can't sell it to you only the sister can. Also why would you rent a house that is behind on the mortgage? If it forecloses you lose everything.

There are lots of scams like this happening on Craigslist. People take homes for sale, use the photos, etc. and say they are for rent. They have some story as to why you can't meet the homeowner, or can't see the property. Run away.

RUN RUN RUN Away. If it smells it is likely a scam and since you mentioned the #1 scam site (Craigs List) it almost surely is a scam. If the owner can not speak with you and show you the house themselves I would never trust anyone on the phone or online.

Hire a Realtor! ! ! ! Michelle ~ you should only be negotiating with the home owner and not a person who claims to be a relative. Homeowner information is public knowledge and if the home is really for rent by the homeowner, then she is the one you should be under contract with. A Realtor can make that happen ~ protect yourself!
