What is the possibility of my Service Animal being denied by pet-free residencies?

Asked by Hanna Falkie, Orono, ME Mon May 5, 2014

She is a small, very agreeable young cat who is certified and has her vests. Arthas is also in the process of becoming certified as a Therapy Animal for volunteer work around Orono this coming semester.

Fair Housing requires landlords to accept "service Animals" in their pet-free properties. If you have a problem, contact your local municipal office for guidance.

Hanna,

Do you have a disability causing you to require a service animal? Or does the cat provide service to person not living in your residence?

Providing certification certificate should satisfy any landlord or association. I have seen many instances where this has been allowed.
