I am a Detroit REALTOR(R) with over 20 years; my previously occupations were real estate paralegal and a Detroit police officer. Your "options as far as paying rent" are few:
1. Keep staying and paying where you are until you are requested to vacate. New law says foreclosing bank may have to work with you, especially if you have an valid and active lease;
2. If you don't have a lease, move out and pay rent to a new landlord; or
3. Start planning to buy your own home
With either choice, you may want to consult with a REALTOR(R) or legal adviser first.

If you have more questions, reach out to your state representative more help. It's an election year.
Not paying rent could ruin your credit, none the less get you an eviction. The landlord still owns the home. The foreclosure process can take 1-2 years depending on the bank and how backed up they are.
