Alison Hillm…, Other/Just Looking in San Francisco, CA

If my landlord has never mentioned that I can't airbnb a room, can I do it or am I abusing my renter privileges?

Generally speaking, renting on airbnb is a violation of the planning code because neither you nor your landlord has a tourist occupancy permit. As such, renting on airbnb would be a nuisance and could subject you to eviciton.

Your written lease may also have a no sublet without consent clause, which renting on airbnb would violate assuming you did not have consent.

Lastly, the Rent Ordinance provides that you are not allowed to sublet and make a profit essentially.

Best of luck,
