IF there is no lease, it is considered month to month and the the tenant would have 30 days MAX to move. Sometimes this can be as little as 3 days. Again, it is about what is in place with both parties and communication is the key to a smooth transaction.

If the tenant is in a "Tenant at Will Status".......this means that both the owner and the tenant have agreed to a month to month tenancy with no lease. Either party can terminate the tenancy.
However,...if there is a lease,...it is supposed to carry over with the sale of the property and the new homeowner honors the lease.
Arrangements can be made prior to close of escrow between the existing landlord and the tenant as well....!!
I hope this helps....

Never look down on anybody...unless you're helping them up.
Good communication between the tenant and the new owner can often times work out positively for both parties.
