I moved out of my home and want to rent it out, does the state of Michigan say I need a certificate to rent it
Is there a certificate to rent that is needed? The house is in good shape, what do I legally have to do to be able to rent it out to a stranger?

Missy's right, no state requirement , certification requirements are stipulated at the local and county level.

FIRST ANSWER
Some do and some don't. In Washtenaw County only Ann Arbor City and Ypsilanti City require it.
Call the municipality you are in and ask them.
