Now the question becomes...why the bad credit? If there was a hardship (divorce, sickness, ect) that explains why, wouldn't seem to be a problem. However, if it was you just like to spend and not pay, that's a different story. Most owner's will want to see a credit report. There are also many ways to compensate. Best of luck to you.
Just how bad is your credit--any local agent should be able to help you--contact any realty office(s) and inquire--or for by owner rentals--also check out local print media, word of mouth, Craig's List, etc.
