How do we qualify to rent a home when our house is in a short sale? Our credit sucks right now.

I agree with Marla. You are not alone! Many people are looking for a rental right now, just be honest, write a letter explaining all of the details and submit it with your applications. This will help explain your credit scores.

You are not alone! Be honest with the pospective Landlord or management company. Because you are loosing your house should not hold you back from getting a rental. Good luck.

Well, the good news is that you are not alone! Maybe even some of the landlords are struggling as well! What the landlord or management company will mostly be looking for, is whether you can afford the rent. As long as you can show that your income is substantial enough to pay the rent, most likely the landlord is not going to hold a shortsale against you. However, like the previous agent remarked before, offering a larger deposit might help.
But there are other things besides credit that landlords look for, and you should focus on them as well, references, stability, and communications. You might try an ad in craigslist, or answer ads in craigslist.

Just be honest with the Landlord or property manager. They know that lots of people are having problems right now and take that into consideration. Sometimes a larger security deposit will make them feel more confortable.
