What the landlord or management company will mostly be looking for, is whether you can afford the rent. As long as you can show that your income is substantial enough to pay the rent, most likely the landlord is not going to hold a shortsale against you. But there are other things besides credit that landlords look for, and you should focus on them as well, references, stability, and communications. You might try an ad in craigslist, or answer ads in craigslist.
