Wow, seriously? Is this because property tax has shot up tremendously so that is passed on to renter? With these prices they can no longer say austin has an affordable cost of living. We're talking bay area practically now. just this little silicon valley. yuck.

$800-$1500 on average but that depends on the area you are looking to live. Do you have a family? Any children? Pets? Are you relocating for work? Where is your work?

Most of the people I work with have a budget around $1500. That can get you a pretty nice house in a great neighborhood.

Sure, you can find places that go for $800/month, but they are really hard to find, and are usually in areas that are pretty far from downtown.

Just about every landlord in Austin is requiring that your income equal 3x your rent. So if you make $6,000/month, you can easily qualify for a place that is $2,000. Make sense?

I help people find great leases all day, every day. Let me know if I can help you.

J, as previously stated it really depends on the location, size and type of property. 2/2 Duplexes and houses ranges from anywhere between $800-$950 or even more in the north Austin and RR area. If you are not working with a Realtor®, looking for a place in the north Austin area and need to move within the next 60 days I will be happy to assist you. My contact information is below:

Anywhere from about $0.70/SF to $2.00+/SF.

Don't worry about averages, man. Pick a budget and stick to it. When you see something you like, put in your application. Rentals move quickly in these parts. According to NPR (in late 2011, anyway), over 170 move to Austin every single day. http://www.npr.org/blogs/therecord/2011/12/23/143725019/aust…

If you need housing ASAP, now is not the time to be hunting for bargains.
