Dale,
Your situation is not uncommon. Many people prefer to rent for a while before committing to purchase a home in a new town. Renting gives you the opportunity to check out the community, understand the traffic patterns, investigate schools, etc then make a good decision about where you want to buy a home.
I did a quick check of Oakleaf Plantation and there are condos and homes available ranging from $900/month to $1800/month. I've helped other people find rental properties this year in Oakleaf Plantation, so if you need assistance please give me a call.
One thing to consider when thinking about renting vs. buying, if you are a first time home buyer that hasn't had your name on the deed to a home in the past three years, you may qualify for the $8000 first time home buyer credit being offered as part of the latest stimulus package. In order to qualify you must close on a home prior to 12/01/2009. So if you want to buy in the near future and qualify for this credit, you may want to rethink your decision to rent.
Let me know how I can help.
