can you convert a two-family into a three-family in medford, ma?

Asked by Henmaren, 02155 Tue Nov 17, 2009

are multi-family home used to be used as a three family (attic is large enough for a 1 bedroom). when we bought it, it was being used as a two-family (attic and second floor combined as one unit). we'd like to convert it back to a three-family but are unsure of the zoning laws/regulations for doing so....

You'll want to check with the Medford Building Department to see if it's possible. Their number is (781) 393-2509, but your best bet is to go to City Hall in person when an inspector is in the office.
Inspector's Hours: Mon, Tues., Thurs - 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. & 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Good luck!

Hemaren,
your best bet before you do any work is to check with your town's building department to get the information (zoning, permits) to make sure that you can convert to a 3 family.
