Awallmss, Home Seller in Walworth, NY

We are looking to purchase a home, and have some renovation ideas, but have no idea on cost

Asked by Awallmss, Walworth, NY Wed Jan 26, 2011

We want to add a master suite on the second level, over the garage. There is no bonus room roughed in, so it will need to be created, roof raised, etc. We want a very basic room, walk in closet and full bathroom. No hallway is needed, as the garage is accessible through the wall already. Ballpark on cost, anyone?

A great resource is Remodeling Magazine's cost spreadsheet. They update it every year, and it can be found here:
It gives regional cost figures, and also tells you what you might expect to recoup if you were to sell within one year. Roof raising, though, is a big expense if you can avoid that. You should ask a reputable contractor and either residential designer or architect to explore alternatives that could be less costly. They should be able to provide you with options to choose from within a specified investment range. Good luck!

Before considering any additions to the structure, do check with your local building's department regarding any needed possible permits--as for the cost of renovationg--contact a few local contractors and ask for free estimates based on your needs--then choose the one that best suits you.

Most contractors will give you a free estimate. I would contact at least three contractors for a bid.
