Open permit cancelation

Asked by Huligan, South Orange, NJ Thu Sep 20, 2012

I have a question about open permit cancelation. 10 years ago we took a permit for renovations. However, we never do any work due to many factors. What we would need to do to cancel them? Would the inspectors need to come in? Does anybody know?

Call your municipal officer and ask them what you need to do. Normally, if you had done the work, the inspector would come and, if everything was done properly, he would certify that and close the permit. I am a bit surprised that the municipality hasn't already contacted you about the open permits, but sometimes the paperwork gets lost. Call them and ask them what to do, it's probably a pretty simple process.
