I might add, are you in a subdivision where all the homes are mostly the same size or are you one of many homes all different in age and size.
If it is the latter the 2 bedroom will be a plus.
In neighborhood subdivisions you will need more 3 bedroom homes for the families, but the singles usually choose the latter in small towns.
You may plan to spend the rest of your life in the home but sometimes things do come up where we have to go into assisted living or such.
I am 65 and my husband 77 so we can already see some changes.
There may also come a time , hopefully not, where it is necessary for the two of you to have separate rooms as well.
I don't like to bring these things up but these are the things that I see people change homes for when they really should be able to stay where they are familiar with everyone and thing.

If you have no plans of moving, ever, then the answer is really easy. Go ahead.
A service wall to re-divide the room later should be a minor expense compared to the house itself, if you need to put it back later.
There will continue to be a need for 2-bedroom homes -- they're just not where the bulk of the market is.
